Starting today, you can register for this year’s English-language workshops offered by Hochschuldidaktik NRW. The online basic workshops address international lecturers who teach at universities in North Rhine-Westphalia and will take place in November 2025, from 3. – 24.11.2025.
Workshops at a glance
Teaching and Learning
November 3, 2025, 9 am – 5 pm, Trainer: Dr. Hendrik den Ouden
This workshop addresses the foundations of teaching and learning in higher education, the role of lecturers in different teaching situations, and how to design courses according to the principle of constructive alignment. Participants will reflect on learning outcomes and methods in order to motivate students and enable them to take exams successfully.
Examining and Assessing
November 10, 2025, 9 am – 5 pm, Trainer: Daniel Pickert
This workshop explores how to design exams in line with the principle of constructive alignment. Participants will learn to formulate and critically review competence-oriented learning outcomes, distinguish between formative and summative assessment, and consider quality criteria in examinations.
Feedback
November 17, 2025, 9 am – 5 pm, Trainer: Miriam Gertzen
Focusing on feedback as a reciprocal communication process between lecturers and students, this workshop introduces various methods and strategies for creating an open and productive feedback culture in teaching.
Guiding Students
November 24, 2025, 9 am – 5 pm, Trainer: Dr. Barbara Kehler
This workshop addresses the role of lecturers in student advising. Participants will reflect on how to structure advisory sessions efficiently, define their role in the advising process, and actively engage passive students.

Registration opens on Monday, September 15. In order to register for one or more workshops, please e-mail to highereducation@hd-nrw.de and include:

Each workshop is limited to 30 participants. Early registration is recommended, as places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrations received before September 15 cannot be considered.
